What to Wear

Outdoor elegance with a trailhead twist

Join us in celebrating love beneath the open sky — where elegance meets adventure. Our wedding takes place in the great outdoors, with a short stroll along rustic paths to reach the ceremony and reception. We encourage guests to embrace outdoor elegance with a trailhead twist: attire that’s polished, picture-perfect, and practical enough to handle a woodland walk.

Think summer dresses, skirts, slacks, shorts, camp shirts, and jumpsuits — elevated looks that feel at home under the trees. No ties or suit coats are necessary. Dress shoes are welcome, but we recommend avoiding heels that may sink in the grass or struggle with uneven ground. Stylish flats, boots, wedges, or block heels are all great options.

Evening temps may dip once the sun sets, so layers are your friend — shawls, wraps, and dressy jackets are perfect additions to your camp-chic ensemble.

Let your outfit reflect the romance of the woods and the joy of the occasion. We can’t wait to see your trail-ready take on wedding-day style!

FAQs

What time should we arrive?

We recommend arriving early to allow time for parking and the short walk to the ceremony site. Once the ceremony begins, we won’t be able to seat late arrivals. Pre-ceremony refreshments will be offered.

Where do we park?

Parking will be clearly marked when you arrive. Our camp crew will help guide you to the correct spot.

Is there a shuttle or assistance if I need it?

Yes! Golf cart assistance will be available for those who need help getting to the ceremony or reception areas.

How far is the walk?

There is a bit of walking involved, including some uneven terrain and a slight incline. It’s all part of the adventure!

What should I wear?

Our dress code is outdoor elegance with a trailhead twist. Think dressy but practical for a rustic outdoor setting.

See suggested outfits above.

Can I wear heels?

We strongly recommend avoiding heels. The terrain includes grass, gravel, and natural paths—block heels, wedges, boots, or flats are your best bet.

Will it be cold or hot?

June in Michigan can be unpredictable. We recommend layers so you’re comfortable from sunny ceremony to cooler evening dancing.

Can I arrive late to the ceremony?

We kindly ask that you do not. Once the ceremony begins, we won’t be able to seat guests until it concludes.

What happens after the ceremony?

A lot.  See the Camp Itinerary above.

When does the reception start?

The reception area will open at 6 PM. Getting there includes a short, scenic walk through the woods. Once you arrive, the celebration really begins with dinner, dancing, and surprises.

Will there be food and drinks?

Absolutely! You’ll enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert, and plenty of camp-inspired fun along the way.

Is the bar open during the ceremony?

The bar will be closed during the ceremony and will reopen afterward.

Will there be bugs?

It’s the great outdoors, so probably! We’ll have bug spray available, but you’re welcome to bring your own as well.

What about ticks?

Yes, it is absolutely possible that ticks may be in the area. While precautions have been taken, we highly suggest you wear proper deterrent, and perhaps treat your clothing as well. Check yourself for ticks when you get home, as well.

Is the ground paved?

In most areas, no it is not paved.

Will there be lighting at night?

Yes, there will be path lighting, but it will still be darker than a typical indoor venue. We recommend using caution.

Will the museum be open?

No, not for this event. The Bridal Party will have taken over the museum as their getting ready base camp.

Plus, the bride and groom do not want any car to take the spotlight away from them.

We invite you back during our opens hours for a tour, or attend one of our upcoming events. Visit JackFrostMuseum.org for more information.
